We recently completed a concrete repair and installation project for Northpoint Holdings.
Twice a year, the Northpoint Asset Management flushes out all A/C units the commercial building. When they do it washes away the dirt around the area and erodes the base beneath the concrete.
The Proline parking lot paving crew was hired to replace the grass and 4 inches deep of dirt in the area with 4 inches deep of 4 000 PSI concrete to ensure the water drains away from the building.
In this article, we’ll share our journey as we apply our asphalt parking lot pavement expertise to concrete paving to better meet the needs of our clients.
Read on and see us demonstrate how easily we utilize our pavement expertise to create a quality concrete surface for this commercial .
Proline’s paving crew followed the specifications to a “T” and the results were exceptional.
Here’s How The Project Went.

The first step of this concrete installation project was to remove the dirt in the space around the washout to a depth of 4 inches.

We used a skid steer to remove the bulk of the dirt and old school shovels and muscle to remove the dirt immediately surrounding the washout concrete slab and building exterior.
The step step was to level and pack down with tamping machines the remaining earth before applying a subgrade.

The earth had a lot of clay and we had a very wet spring.
We had to break up the clay using pickaxes and shovels, smooth the area, and tamp the area several times to get it an even 4 inched in depth and packed down.
Before pouring the concrete, the Proline team applied heavy blankets to the surrounding surfaces to prevent the concrete from adhering to those areas and ensure the surface is flush with the surrounding concrete surfaces.

Using a level and a taut even string, we ensure the concrete is flush to the building, an even 4 inches deep throughout, accurately sloped for drainage, and even with the surrounding concrete.
We slid the string along as we worked.
Next, we poured the 4 000 PSI concrete into the washout area and used a long 2X6 to spread it and smooth it out until it was even with the surrounding pavement.

We continued adding fresh concrete slowly as we moved back and forth, smoothing out the concrete until the space was covered with 4 inches of concrete.
We used a level and taut string as a guide as we raked to concrete to distribute it evenly.
We the used a straight 2×6 and 2×4 to smooth out the concrete and ensure it is level and flush with the surrounding concrete.
